Yanwei Sun

Welcome! I am a fourth-year (2022 Fall) PhD student of Analytics & Operations at Imperial Business School, where I am very fortunate to be advised by Prof. Jiahua Wu and Prof. Chiwei Yan. I was a visiting scholar at University of California, Berkeley during the 2024–2025 academic year, hosted by Prof. Chiwei Yan.

Broadly, I study the design and operations of marketplaces in which participants are self-interested and information is dispersed. A market designer has several levers — prices and contracts, information, and operational controls — and a recurring theme in my work is that these levers interact and are best designed jointly. My research centers on three themes:
(1) markets for AI and with AI: how AI services should be priced and contracted, and how machine-learned predictions reshape mechanisms such as auctions;
(2) information as a design lever in platforms: what platforms and regulators should let market participants know, and how disclosure interacts with pricing;
(3) dynamic service operations: spatial staffing, scheduling, and queueing control when customers respond strategically to operational decisions.
